Last night Ritsu whisked me away to Roppongi to a small ‘hole in a wall’ (ok, it was on the second floor) sushi restaurant called ‘Umi‘.
But small indeed, about 10 seats at the counter and a 6 seat private table. According to the one review on tripadvisor, the show is run by owner and sushi master Nagano san and his 5 helpers who all bend over backwards to make this a very pleasant and special meal.
There is no menu, everything is omakase = the chef decides what you eat (ok, he asks for preferences and / or allergies) .. And so we got one delectable bite after the other, too many to name all of them, but a surprise was the ‘egg’, which is usually a cheap filler on other sushi platters. This here was just fantastic.
